Margaret Kolmus uses the language of geometry in her paintings. She creates geometric abstractions, through which she wants to share her view of the world and influence the viewer with color as well as composition. She is close to the op-art and hard-edge currents. The artist graduated with a degree in architecture. The common denominator of many of her paintings are regular divisions, rhythm, symmetry and orderliness. The works depict abstract spaces and planes where one can observe the play of light and color.

What she loves most about art is the opportunity to explore – she is passionate about finding interesting color combinations and certain lighting and spatial effects. Light plays an important role in her works – it can be diffused or resemble the glow of a neon sign, spread smoothly or emphasize shapes, creating a 3D effect. The composition is usually multilayered, composed of interpenetrating planes.
